How to Fix Videos Folder Missing or Duplicate Documents Folder in Windows 10
By Timothy Tibbetts |
An unusual problem with Windows 10 is a missing Videos folder in File Explorer. Sometimes, not only is the Video folder missing but you also now have two Documents folder. Typically, if you have two document folders, one will be empty while the other contains all the files and folders. In this guide, we look at a few possible solutions to this problem.
Before we proceed, back up your files in Documents and Videos.
1: Restore Defaults
The most likely solution is to restore File Explorer defaults.
If you have Duplicate Document folders, right-click on one of them and click Properties and go to the Location tab.
Click on Restore Default. Repeat with the other Documents folder. If that fails to restore the Videos folder, follow the same steps for the folder that should be the Videos folder and change the path to C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Videos.
Change Registry Path
What would a guide be without editing the registry? As always, back up your registry before proceeding. We also will need to open PowerShell after editing the registry.
Press the Windows Key + R, type in regedit and press Enter.
Enter HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders in the search bar.
If you see a key named {35286A68-3C57-41A1-BBB1-0EAE73d76C95} double-click that and change the Value data to %USERPROFILE%\Videos.
Return to File Explorer and Shift right-click on the Documents folder that has the Documents icon next to it and click on Open PowerShell window here. Close File Explorer.
Type in ri desktop.ini -force and press enter. Open File Explorer, right-click on one each of the Documents folder, click Properties and go to the Location tab. Delete the folder with the wrong location.
