How to Install .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 8
By Timothy Tibbetts |
In some cases, mainly when installing an older app, you might be prompted to install an older version of the .NET framework, often 3.5. Typically, the latest version of the Microsoft. NET Framework is backward compatible, but not always with version 3.5 because some older apps and games were developed specifically for .NET 3.5. There are two possibilities to enable .NET 3.5.
Hopefully, this solution is obvious. When you get the prompt you see below, just click on Install this feature, and .NET 3.5 should be installed for you.
Odds are you already tried this, so the next thing to do is enable .NET 3.5 in the Control Panel. Press the Windows key + S and type in Windows Features. You should see Turn Windows features on or off
, so click on that and at the top, you should see .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0). Check that box and reboot. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 should now be installed and ready to use.
Note that the boxes below .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) are Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) HTTP Activation and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Non-HTTP Activation and are for developers. They are turned off and should stay turned off.
