Far Manager is an Open Source text-based app designed to manage your files and file archives quickly. Edit, copy, rename files, and more.
The Far part of the program's name is an acronym for File and Archive Manager which gives you a good idea of what the program can do.
The old school text-based interface of Far Manager is quick and easy to use since it lacks no graphics or interface to load. Don't let this fool you. Far Manager has been in constant development since around 2000, so it has had a lot of time to pack a ton of features and usability into the program. However, as you can see in the screenshots, it might not be as attractive and polished as the competition - but it gets the job done. It also supports multiple languages, and the interface does have some configuration options. In short, file navigation is made easier with highlighting and colored trees.
Far Manager can also do much more with the number of plugins that are available, which add more functionality. There are more plugins available capable of expanding it even further like managing FTP servers, emails, text conversion, registry editing, a few games, and more.
