Windows Movie Maker 2012 is the classic, unsupported Movie Maker that was part of Windows Live Essentials. Support ended in January of 2017.
Two notes before you download:
NOD32, Comodo, and Tencent flag this as infected. Because it's only three of sixty-eight, and a Microsoft product, we believe that these are false positives. See our second screenshot below for a Windows Defender scan. Windows Defender allowed the installation.
If you're not sure, download Windows Live Essentials from MajorGeeks and install only Movie Maker and Photo Gallery. The downside to installing Windows Movie Maker in Live Essentials is that you also have to install Photo Gallery.
That being said, we've done all of our usual testings and can't find any malware, viruses, running services, or startup entries that typically show a problem.
Many websites offer Windows Movie Maker, but in reality, the download is the full Windows Live Essentials. In some cases, they are offering the web installer (one of the larger websites files are the Spanish version), which requires you to download .Net 3.5 and also no longer works. You can download Windows Live Essentials from MajorGeeks and install only Movie Maker and Photo Gallery. This download is only Movie Maker.
