Can I Get Coronavirus From Mail or Package Deliveries?
By Timothy Tibbetts |
As we spend time in isolation, many of us are buying products online, which leads us to the question, "can you get Coronavirus from the mail or package delivery?
The biggest problem with answering this question is the amount of information or disinformation available and the fact that it seems to change every day. Our leaders can't seem to agree, and like everything nowadays, you can always find the answer you want. We've seen the advice from Realtors, truck drivers, Instagram models, doctors, and nurses.
Currently, the CDC states that the Coronavirus spreads from person to person through respiratory droplets. Both the CDC and WHO say that there is a very low risk for the Coronavirus to spread from packages that have traveled for days.
However, there's no reason not to be cautious.
Wash your hands. At least we can all agree on washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and preferably with warm water.
Don't touch your face until you wash your hands and be aware of what you touched.
Once you've placed the boxes, magazines, advertisements, or envelopes into the recycle bin disinfect anything you touched. Really think about; door handles, countertops, recycle bins, and your mailbox handle comes to mind.
You can make your household disinfectant by mixing five tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water or four teaspoons of bleach per quart of water.
Gloves and a mask are other possibilities, but at the time of this article, there's no evidence that the virus can travel on packages, so that might be considered overkill.
Because we're all self quarantining, we should be aware of anything that enters our home. Be safe out there.
