How to Add or Remove the Recycle Bin to File Explorer Navigation in Windows 10 & 11
By Timothy Tibbetts |
The Recycle Bin is a Windows feature that saves deleted files so they can be restored. While we all empty the Recycle Bin regularly, having the Recycle Bin in the File Explorer Navigation Pane can be a handy feature.
You can right-click on a space near the bottom of the Navigation Pane and click on Show all folders. The downside here is that, well, you show all folders, and that can be cluttered. If you'd like only to add the Recycle Bin, check out the registry files below.
Registry files are a simple way to only add the Recycle Bin to the File Explorer Navigation Pane.
We have tested the scripts on Windows 7, 10, and 11.
Download Add or Remove the Recycle Bin to File Explorer Navigation and extract the two files:
Add the Recycle Bin in File Explorer.reg
Remove the Recycle Bin in File Explorer.reg (Default)
Double-click Add the Recycle Bin in File Explorer.reg or Remove the Recycle Bin in File Explorer.reg to Add or Remove the Recycle Bin to File Explorer Navigation
Click Yes when prompted by User Account Control.
Click Yes when prompted by Registry Editor.
Click OK when prompted by the Registry Editor.
You can also drag and drop the Recycle Bin to other areas of the Navigation Pane. For example, we dragged it to and expanded Quick Access and dropped it there:
You can also right-click and add the Recycle Bin to the Start Menu.
