How to Change Recycle Bin Storage Size in Windows 10 & 11
By Timothy Tibbetts |
The Recycle Bin stores files you've deleted until you're sure you want them permanently deleted. In some cases, you may need more or less space reserved for the Recycle Bin. Modifying the storage size (reserved hard drive space) is simple to do.
Video tutorial:
Right-click on your Recycle Bin on the Desktop and click on Properties.
Click on the drive you want to change.
Next to Custom size, enter the maximum amount of drive space you want to reserve for the Recycle Bin.
Note that 1024 = 1GB. In the screenshot above, that means I am using roughly 50GB for the Recycle Bin.
If you wanted to reserve 20GB, you would enter 20480 (1024 x number of GB to reserve).
Of course, it's easier to multiply by 1000 and come close to the number you want. For example, we could use 20000 for 20GB, 30000 for 30GB, and so on.
