How to Stop Google Chrome From Starting Automatically
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Google Chrome remains the most used browser on the internet but like any app, has its share of bugs and problems. One problem that can annoy people is Google Chrome starting when you start or restart your computer. Here are a few possible solutions.
1: Disable Sign-in After Updates or Restart
One fix to this problem is actually not even a Google Chrome setting. Press the Windows Key + S and type in Sign and click on Sign-in options.
Scroll down and uncheck "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update or restart."
2: Check Startup
Open your Task Manager by pressing the Windows Key + S and type in, then click on Task Manager. Click on the Startup tab. If you see Google Chrome, right-click and on that and select Disable.
3: Disable Background Apps When Chrome is Closed
Click on the hamburger icon in the top right corner and click on Settings, scroll down to Advanced and scroll down to System.
Uncheck Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.
Keep setting open for the next step.
4: Disable Continue Where You Left Off
Scroll back up to the On startup section. Where you see Open a specific page or set of pages make sure there are no pages listed here that you didn't add. If there are pages you didn't add, you can click on any listed page, and the option to Remove will appear.
5: Google Hangouts Extension Conflict
If you're using Google Hangouts, it's been known to cause this problem. You can enable and then reenable Hangouts by right-clicking on the icon. If that fails, right-click on the Hangouts extension icon and Remove from Chrome. Now reinstall the extension.
6: Refresh or Reset Google Chrome
Finally, we might be able to refresh Google Chrome or even reset if everything else failed.
