Windows 10 Search - This Is Taking Too Long to Load
Beginning in May 2020, a bug appeared that caused Windows Search to display, "This is taking too long to load." Here are the steps you can take to resolve the problem and get your Windows 10 search working again.

1: This Is Taking Too Long to Load - Click Refresh
In case you didn't try it, click on the blue Refresh button.
2: This Is Taking Too Long to Load - Reboot
Multiple suggestions included restarting Explorer, restarting search, Search services, and your computer.
Restart your computer to complete all these steps and save you time and trouble.
3: This Is Taking Too Long to Load - Windows Search Troubleshooter
There are many suggestions available regarding this problem, and they all want you to run multiple steps (as seen above). Windows 10 Search and Indexing Troubleshooter can also check multiple possibilities, including:
Incorrect permissions on Windows Search directories Search Filter Host process failed Windows Search service shut down unexpectedly Windows Search service not running Windows Search service failed Search Protocol Host Process failed
Press the Windows Key + R, type in msdt.exe -ep WindowsHelp id SearchDiagnostic, and press Enter.
Click Advanced, and click on Run as administrator. Click Next.
Check the boxes next to Can't start a search or see results, and Search or indexing is slow.
The next step asks you to optionally describe your problem. Click Next.
The Troubleshooter will now check for the issues mentioned above. Try Windows 10 Search now.
4: Check Windows Updates
Many bugs are fixed in Windows Updates. Click Start > Settings > Update and Security > Windows Updates.
Click Check for updates.
Reboot.
5: Disable Bing Search
Some users have reported disabling Bing search did the trick. You need to edit the registry as explained here.
