What is Adobe Acrobat Update Service or Adobe_Updater.exe
By Timothy Tibbetts |
You might have noticed a Windows Service named Adobe Acrobat Update Service or an executable called Adobe_updater.exe and wondered if you should remove or disable it.
Adobe_Updater.exe should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ or C:\Program Filesx86\Common Files\Adobe\ and is the executable and service used to update Adobe products. If you have these and have any Adobe products installed, you can leave it alone.
Verify that you don't have any Adobe software in Settings > Apps & features or Control Panel > Add\Remove Programs.
Once you've done that and still find the service or exe, you might do a full scan with Malwarebytes. While less likely, some malware disguises itself using valid program names.
If you have Adobe products installed but don't want to update or prefer to update manually, you can disable the update service.
Press the Windows Key + R, type in services.msc and press Enter.
Find and double-click on Adobe Acrobat Update Service.
Change the Startup type to Manual.
