Ashampoo RottenSys Checker for Android scans your device for the presence of the RottenSys malware and allows one-tap removal.
RottenSys has been discovered pre-installed on millions of Android devices and is disguised as a harmless Wi-Fi service. A team from Check Point Research ran some test and discovered that the service is next-generation spyware that will flood an infected device with numerous ads. To achieve this, the malware requests system permissions to silently download additional components than used to display advertisements and to generate fraudulent ad-revenues.
After scanning your device, Ashampoo RottenSys Checker will list all malicious software packages. You can then remove the malware with a simple tap.
To date, RottenSys has only acted as an adware annoyance, but there is the potential for far more serious threats including it using the DOWNLOAD_WITHOUT_NOTIFICATION permission, allowing it to potentially sneak newly downloaded components past security restrictions and do more damage.
