Avira Software Updater can check all of your software to make sure everything is up to date.
After installation, your computer is automatically scanned, and out of date software is shown as well as a rescan button. You can click on "Update" one at a time to update your software.
Avira Software Updater offers to install Avira Phantom VPN, their Freemium proxy software, during the install but provides a prominent "Skip All" link. An advertisement is also provided at the bottom for other Avira products as well as a Pro version with extra features and Avira Antivirus. We almost didn't add Avira Software Updater because of this, but we feel users of Avira might be interested in this alongside their Avira Antivirus.
The monitored software tab shows you everything being monitored but is borderline pointless because you can't disable software updates. The Events tabs will show everything updated, when you last scanned and what needs updating. It also lists the number of monitored software, updates so far, and days installed. Frankly, Monitored Software and Events could be combined into one tab.
There is also a Driver Updater, but we received an error connecting to the database, so we are unable to review that further.
While Avira Software Updater has potential, they need to tone down pushing their other software and could add the ability not to scan specific applications you don't want to be updated. We'd also like to see a portable version. We almost didn't add Avira Software Updater, but we think Avira can, and will, do better in future releases.
Pro version is $24.95 and can update software automatically, install updates with 1 click, and updates your operating system
