Universal Media Server for Windows and Linux is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server based on the PS3 Media Server by shagrath.
It is actually an evolution of the "SubJunk Build" of PMS. UMS was started by SubJunk, an official developer of PMS, to ensure greater stability and file compatibility. Because it is written in Java, Universal Media Server supports all major operating systems.
Universal Media Server allows you to stream your media to any of your devices: TV, consoles, phone and any other device that can connect to the internet and display or play media. Universal Media Player can even add subtitles to you media on the fly.
Universal Media Server streams or transcodes many different media formats with little or no configuration. It is powered by MEncoder, FFmpeg, tsMuxeR, AviSynth, MediaInfo, and more, which combine to support a broad range of media formats.
