A hacker who goes by the name of BestBuy is taking responsibility for the hack that knocked out thousands of British TalkTalk and Post Office internet subscribers’ offline with a DDoS attack.
BestBuy told Motherboard that he was “Sorry for UK Post Office," and that the ISP “should give their customers better hardware :\.”
He explained that they were just trying to enlist additional devices to their Mirai-powered botnet and that too many requests ended up freezing the routers. "They" refers to another cyber-criminal, named Popopret, that BestBuy is working for who wants access to the botnet to use in more high powered attacks.
BestBuy told Motherboard that they were finished updating their botnet and that he hopes that nothing else goes wrong.
